Support Local MK helps people discover independent businesses across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
Great local businesses are not always easy to find, particularly when you do not already know their name or exactly what to search for. Support Local MK brings useful information together through individual Discovery Profiles, helping people understand what a business offers, where or how it operates, and whether it could be relevant to what they are looking for.
The aim is not simply to provide a list of business names. It is to make local discovery easier and give people enough useful information to decide what they would like to explore next.
Why Support Local MK exists
Independent businesses can be easy to miss online, especially when people are searching by need, location or category rather than by a business name they already know.
Support Local MK was created to give those businesses another opportunity to be discovered and to make useful local information easier for people to find in one place.
The project is built around a simple idea: if people can more easily understand what a local business does, who it may be useful for and how to connect with it, they are in a better position to decide whether they want to explore it further.
How Support Local MK works
Support Local MK brings useful business information together in individual Discovery Profiles so people can quickly understand what a business does and whether it may be relevant to them.
Visitors can browse by category, use search, or explore recently added businesses. Each profile is designed to provide enough useful context to help someone decide whether they want to visit, enquire, book, buy or continue exploring the business online.
Support Local MK does not handle the transaction or replace the business’s own website, social channels or contact routes. When someone wants to take the next step, they continue directly to the business
What makes Support Local MK different
Support Local MK is designed as a discovery resource rather than a traditional business directory.
Discovery Profiles aim to give people useful context about a business, not just a name, category and contact details. The focus is on helping visitors understand what a business offers, why it may be relevant to them and how they can connect with it.
Support Local MK is not a review site, marketplace or ranking platform. The aim is to make independent local businesses easier to discover while keeping the relationship between the visitor and the business direct.
Free for independent businesses
Support Local MK Discovery Profiles are free for independent businesses. Businesses do not pay to be included, and paying for better organic placement is not part of the project.
If you run an independent business in Milton Keynes or the surrounding area, you are welcome to recommend your own business. The ‘Recommend a Business’ form can also be used by someone who thinks another local business deserves to be discovered.
Each recommendation gives Support Local MK a starting point for learning about the business and gathering the information needed to create a useful Discovery Profile.
Who is behind Support Local MK?
Support Local MK was created and is currently funded by Carsten, a Milton Keynes-based Digital Performance Specialist with experience across websites, search, content and online behaviour.
The project grew from a simple idea: use that experience to make useful local business information easier to discover, while learning from how people actually search, browse and make decisions.
Support Local MK is an independent project, developed locally and shaped around what is useful for people and businesses across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
Another route to your business
Support Local MK gives independent businesses another place to be discovered by people looking for something local.
A Discovery Profile is there to help visitors understand what a business offers, where or how it operates, and how they can find out more. It sits alongside the business’s own website, social media, Google Business Profile and other existing channels rather than replacing them.
From there, visitors can connect with the business directly using the contact options it already provides.
